Since this animation represents an interactive character, a simple design worked best. And a library of actions and gestures that could all be linked together in endless ways is also characteristic of interactive programs but, it also gave us a lot for our effort...
"First off, with our budget, I always expected to pick up the animation from an existing program or use some amorphous blob, but when John Hays, owner of Wildbrain animation studios, offered to create the animation for next to nothing, I just stood back and marveled. He and David Brandt designed the character and David 3-D animated a series of actions that the actors could play off of. There was no blue screen faking of their reactions. Koi Koi was on set for all the cues. What the hell was I thinking for my first film?!!"
